The Semi-Annual AIDS Related Expenditures Report is prepared for the Finanancial Management staff of the Health Care Financing Administration's Division of Medicaid. Included is data on Medi-Cal Fee-for-Service claims paid during the 6-month report period for persons believed to have HIV-related diseases. Our selection criteria include International Classification of Disease (ICD-9) diagnosis codes 041, 042, and 043; or a prescription claim for drugs commonly used in the treatment of AIDS. Since the selection criteria have been modified significantly with the January - June 1996 report period, time-series comparisons with previous reports are not advised. Please note that as more Medi-Cal beneficiaries are moved into managed care arrangements, AIDS'-related expenditures erroneously appear to decline. This is due to our current data systems limitations in capturing expenses attributable to persons with HIV infection in managed care. As requested, the report is formatted by age group. However, the information reflects age at time of service rather than age at time of infection, as this is all we have available. NOTE: Special efforts are made to ensure that the files we provide are not infected with viruses. If, however, you discover a virus on one of our files, please notify us immediately at (916) 552-8550. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Jan Rains at (916)552-8550 or via e-mail at mcssweb@dhs.ca.gov.
