DHCS Summer Internships
The California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) seeks applicants for summer-long internships. Interns may work as much as full-time on site at DHCS in Sacramento during the summer months (10-12 weeks).
DHCS is the state agency responsible for administering Medi-Cal, the nation’s publicly funded health insurance program for low-income children, families, elderly, and persons with disabilities. The department's mission is to provide access to affordable, high-quality health care, including medical, dental, mental health, substance use treatment services, and long-term care health insurance for about 12 million Medi-Cal members.
Internships will provide opportunities to work in public service and on major issues of significance to beneficiaries, providers, health plans, and the state government. Interns may be matched in the Director’s Office and have the opportunity to work with the executive team on current health policy issues.
Examples of projects may include:
- Innovations in health care financing and delivery;
- Strategies for outreach to, and enrollment of beneficiaries;
- Health benefit design;
- Evidence-based policy;
- Value-based purchasing;
- and Health information technology.
Opportunities to support DHCS’s implementation of health reform under the Affordable Care Act may also be available. Interns will also participate in 6-8 seminar sessions offering additional opportunities to interact with DHCS senior leadership, as well as learn from each other’s experiences in the Department.
DEADLINE TO APPLY: March 31, 2015
**Applicants must be enrolled and in good academic standing as graduate-level students; undergraduate students will also be considered if their studies align with the Department’s work (e.g., public policy, health services, finance, economics).
