DHCS WordPress Training Guide

DHCS is moving from SharePoint 2016 to WordPress VIP because SharePoint for web hosting has been retired, is hard to maintain, and doesn’t meet modern usability or accessibility standards. WordPress offers a better experience for both editors and site visitors.

What’s Changing from SharePoint to WordPress

  • Editing Experience
    • SharePoint: Editing felt like working in Word—you typed into a big text area and hoped the page looked right.
    • WordPress: Uses blocks—small, structured pieces like paragraphs, headings, lists, and tables. Blocks make pages easier to build, maintain, and keep consistent.
  • Workflow
    • SharePoint: No built-in workflow. You had to fill out an external form to request publishing and track progress manually.
    • WordPress: Workflow is built in.

Benefits for You

  • Accidentally clicking on a link won’t take you to a new page and cause you to lose your edits.
  • Easier editing with structured blocks.
  • Built-in workflow for approvals, better visibility, and better communication.
  • Accessibility is integrated into the editor.
