Performance Improvement Project (PIP) Resources
Performance Improvement Projects (PIPs) are a key federal protocol for the External Quality Review (EQR). DMC-ODS counties select one clinical problem and one administrative / process problem, and design PIPs to systematically design and implement interventions to improve these areas. Counties are expected to conduct a thorough analysis of the problem, establish a baseline and key indicators, and then implement interventions. Interventions are designed to enhance quality and outcomes that benefit the clients receiving DMC-ODS services.
The final phase of the PIP is an evaluation of the effectiveness of the chosen interventions on the problem areas. Two active PIPs are required when an EQR occurs. At least one intervention must be in progress for the PIP to be considered active.
Before beginning the design and implementation process for a PIP, counties are strongly encouraged to watch the EQR YouTube video resources (external links provided in the sections below) to help make the process clearer. These are videos include an overview of PIP development, a sample review of a typical PIP, and tips for avoiding frequency problems.
