Medi-Cal Third Party Liability and Recovery

The Third Party Liability and Recovery Division (TPLRD) is responsible for ensuring that the Medi-Cal program complies with State and Federal laws and regulations relating to the legal liability of third parties for health care services to beneficiaries, and of taking all reasonable measures to ensure that the Medi-Cal program is the payer of last resort.

Effective January 1, 2012, both federal and state laws require all TPLRD payments issued to any individual or non-governmental entity to submit a Payee Data Record (STD. 204).
