As a result of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) that began in 2014, Medi-Cal has provided health coverage to approximately 2.7 million new people. The Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) partnered with Covered California creating an online “one-stop shop” application for individuals and families to apply for health coverage.​​
