​​​National Provider Identifier

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requires the adoption of a standard unique identifier for health care providers, the National Provider Identifier (NPI). The NPI is 10 digits in length and will replace the current LEA Medi-Cal provider numbers. To comply with this requirement, CMS developed the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES) to assign these unique identifiers.  LEAs must register for an NPI by May 23, 2007.  Click on the links below for additional NPI information and how to register for your LEA NPI:
