Mental Health Medi-Cal Administrative Activities
County Mental Health Plans (MHPs) may claim federal reimbursement for the cost of administrative activities that support the Medi-Cal program. The Code of Federal Regulations, Title 42, United States Code Section 1396b(a) and Title 42, Code of Federal Regulations Section 433.15 authorizes the Federal government to reimburse states for the cost of activities that the Secretary of Health and Human Services finds to be necessary for the proper and efficient administration of the State Plan. California Statute (Welfare and Institutions Codes, Section 14132.47) authorizes the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) to contract with Local Government Agencies (LGA) or Local Educational Consortiums (LEC) to perform Medi-Cal Administrative Activities (MAA) that are necessary for the proper and efficient administration of the Medi-Cal program.
