Funding Rounds

Round 1: County Behavioral Health Agencies

Behavioral Health Bridge Housing (BHBH) funding was awarded to California county behavioral health agencies (BHAs) to implement or expand bridge housing for individuals with serious behavioral health conditions. Round 1, released by DHCS in 2023. County BHAs statewide received awards and began implementing BHBH program services, which will continue through June 2027.

Round 2: Tribal Entities

Funding was awarded to California Tribal entities to plan for and implement bridge housing supports for individuals with serious mental illness (SMI) and substance use disorder (SUD).

Round 2 was released in 2023, with awards made to Tribal entities to support implementation of BHBH services.

Round 2B: Tribal Entities

Additional funding was awarded to Tribal entities to expand bridge housing supports for individuals with SMI and SUD. Round 2B was released in 2024 to support additional Tribal entity participation and program expansion.

Round 3: County Behavioral Health Agencies – Strategic Enhancements

Round 3 provided additional funding to selected California county BHAs to expand and enhance existing BHBH programs. This competitive round was released in 2024. Awards supported both expansion of existing projects and development of new BHBH services. Implementation will continue through June 2026.
