Population of Focus
One in four adults in California have a disability. People with disabilities have higher prevalence of some diseases; higher rates of morbidity, mortality, and risk factors for poor health, and lower rates of receiving preventive care (i.e. mammograms, pap smears, and dental visits) compared to their non-disabled peers. Among working age adults with disabilities, one in three do not have a regular health care provider and have unmet health care needs because of costs.
