The Vision Services Branch (VSB) administers the Medi-Cal fee-for-service vision care program, serving Medi-Cal members in the State of California. The program offers covered optometric services benefits including comprehensive eye examinations, low vision evaluations, and artificial eye services to eligible Medi-Cal members of all ages. In addition, VSB oversees the optical laboratories that furnish and fabricate over prescription lenses at no cost to Medi-Cal members who qualify.

Providers

• Eyeglasses containing electronic components, for example e-frames, are excluded as Medi-Cal benefits due to the fact that they are prescribed for reasons other than the correction of refractive errors or binocularity anomalies. Providers believing that eyeglasses containing electronic components are medically necessary may submit a Prior Authorization for review.
  Eyeglasses used primarily for protective, cosmetic, occupational, or avocational purposes are also excluded.
