Medi-Cal Value Strategy  

On July 9, DHCS presented a new Medi-Cal Value Strategy that provides a clear framework to drive value across plans and providers for years to come. Medi-Cal faces unprecedented financial pressures due to H.R. 1 and state budget constraints. Ensuring that every Medi-Cal dollar is spent as effectively and efficiently as possible is vital. The Value Strategy seeks to strengthen the Medi-Cal program by improving member health and wellness by delivering the right care at the right cost and with the right level of quality. DHCS’ next steps for the Value Strategy are to educate and engage stakeholders, finalize a list of key performance indicators to measure success, work to align all programs and policies with the strategy, and release a written version of the strategy. A recording of the webinar is available on YouTube. 

Seeking New Medi-Cal Member Advisory Committee Members 

DHCS is actively recruiting new members for the Medi-Cal Member Advisory Committee (MMAC), a safe space for Medi-Cal members, as well as their family members and caregivers, to share lived experiences in the Medi-Cal program and offer valuable feedback directly to the DHCS leadership team who run the Medi-Cal program. MMAC functions alongside other DHCS advisory groups, such as the Medi-Cal Voices & Vision Council. DHCS posts upcoming public meetings on its Calendar of Events. DHCS provides free assistive services, including language interpretation, real-time captioning, and meeting materials in alternate formatting. To request services, please email the Office of Civil Rights at civilrights@dhcs.ca.gov at least ten working days before the meeting.

On August 27, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. PDT, DHCS will host a Coverage Ambassador train-the-trainer webinar on HR1 changes, it will provide an overview of new Medi-Cal work and community engagement requirements, six-month renewals, and other changes (advanced registration required). Spanish translation and live captions will be available. Coverage Ambassadors are trusted messengers who help raise awareness about Medi-Cal benefits, enrollment opportunities, and new initiatives aimed at building a healthier California for all. DHCS CalAIM MLTSS and Duals Integration Workgroup Meeting 

On August 26, from 12 to 2 p.m. PDT, DHCS will host the CalAIM Managed Long-Term Services and Supports (MLTSS) and Duals Integration Workgroup meeting (advance registration required). The workgroup is a stakeholder collaboration hub for CalAIM MLTSS and integrated care for dual eligible members. It allows stakeholders to provide feedback and share information about policy, operations, and strategy related to Medi-Cal and Medicare. More information, background materials, transcripts, and video recordings of previous workgroup meetings are posted on the CalAIM MLTSS and Duals Integration Workgroup webpage. DHCS released a Request for Applications (RFA) for approximately $44 million to implement the Elevate Youth California (EYC) program in low-income, under-resourced communities of color. 

Youth serving community-based and Tribal organizations can apply for up to $1,000,000 over a three-year grant period. EYC is a statewide program addressing substance use disorder by investing in youth leadership and civic engagement for youth of color and 2S/LGBTQIA+ youth ages 12 to 26 living in communities disproportionately impacted by the war on drugs.
