Public forums are a part of the Council’s ongoing process to evaluate the behavioral health landscape and elevate the voices of the behavioral health community and stakeholders.​

Behavioral Health Transformation (BHT) Educational Forums

The Council is hosting a series of educational forums to provide information on the Behavioral Health Transformation (BHT) Implementation and hear from the behavioral health community, including persons with lived experience of California’s public behavioral health system, their family members, and persons advocating on behalf of individuals with Serious Mental Illness (SMI) and Substance Use Disorder (SUD). To date forums have been conducted in Sacramento and Bakersfield. Details for the next event are below:

Behavioral Health Services Act (BHSA) Public Forums

In response to the Governor’s modernization proposal, the California Behavioral Health Planning Council organized public fo​​rums statewide. Council Members developed questions around sections of SB 326 that align with our policy priorities. These questions were used to guide the listening session portion of the public forums. ​

Public Forums Summary

The Council held seven public forums, one virtual and six in-person, between August 1, 2023, and August 14, 2023. The information collected at the forums was shared with the Department of Health Care Services and the Health and Human Services Agency. It was also used by the Council’s Legislation and Public Policy Committee in the development of the Council's Letter of Concern​
