Medi-Cal Children's Health Advisory Panel
The Medi-Cal Children’s Health Advisory Panel (MCHAP) was established on January 1, 2015, under
Assembly Bill (AB) 357 (Pan, Chapter 376, Statutes of 2014).
MCHAP is a 15-member advisory group of medical professionals, advocates, parents, and other experts who
provide recommendations to DHCS on issues affecting children enrolled in Medi-Cal. Meetings include in-depth discussions on key topics affecting children’s health.
History
Before transitioning to DHCS, MCHAP operated as an advisory body for the Healthy Families Program (HFP), which was overseen by the Managed Risk Medical Insurance Board (MRIMIB). On January 1, 2014, MCHAP began functioning as a stakeholder group for DHCS and was renamed the Advisory Panel for Medi-Cal families. In 2017,
Senate Bill (SB) 220 (Pan, Chapter 280, Statutes of 2017) updated member qualifications, established term lengths, and introduced additional structural changes.
