The federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has approved the Superior Systems Waiver (SSW) renewal application, effective for a five-year period, October 1, 2024 through September 30, 2029. The approved waiver and related documents are located below in the Current Superior Systems Waiver Renewal October 1, 2024 – September 30, 2029 section.​​ 

The SSW describes the utilization review (UR) process for acute inpatient hospitals that serve fee-for-service Medi-Cal patients.  Under SSW authority, the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) employs the following UR approaches, depending on the type of acute inpatient service, the hospital type, and the characteristics of the beneficiary’s health care coverage.​​  

  • Quy trình Yêu cầu Ủy quyền Điều trị (TAR): Quy trình TAR yêu cầu DHCS phải ủy quyền các dịch vụ bệnh viện nội trú trước khi phê duyệt hoàn trả. Bệnh viện nộp TAR cho DHCS để xem xét và phê duyệt việc nhập viện nhằm đảm bảo đáp ứng nhu cầu y tế trước khi yêu cầu dịch vụ.​​  
  • T​​ Quy trình AR-Free: Quy trình TAR-Free yêu cầu các bệnh viện sử dụng các tiêu chí đánh giá y tế tiêu chuẩn, dựa trên bằng chứng để xác định sự cần thiết về mặt y tế và yêu cầu thanh toán cho các dịch vụ nằm viện, trong khi DHCS thực hiện các đánh giá tuân thủ lâm sàng và hành chính sau thanh toán bằng cách sử dụng các mẫu có giá trị thống kê về các yêu cầu thanh toán dịch vụ nằm viện đã được chi trả.​​
