On Friday, April 17 DHCS released the 2025 BrightLife Kids and Soluna Impact Report, which includes video testimonials and key data on the platforms’ growth and impact. Since launching in January 2024, the platforms have reached more than 500,000 users across all 58 counties and completed more than 112,000 coaching sessions. As of December 2025, 98 percent of coaching participants reported satisfaction with their session, and most users are accessing professional mental health support for the first time—77 percent of BrightLife Kids users and 52 percent of Soluna users. Early data show the platforms are advancing equity, with most users coming from communities with the greatest social and health inequities The report also includes preliminary findings from a Northwestern University study showing sustained reductions in distress over three months. On Tuesday, May 5, 2026 DHCS hosted the webinar Early Support, Big Impact on Mental Health: BrightLife Kids and Soluna in Action. It highlights how BrightLife Kids and Soluna are helping families and young people get timely, confidential behavioral health support—without the financial, logistical, or stigma-related barriers that too often prevent access to quality behavioral health care. In the webinar Darrell Steinberg moderates a panel discussion about these two platforms with a pediatrician and community leader partnered with BrightLife Kids, a Soluna youth ambassador, and staff leading these programs. On March 5, 2026, the California Department of Education (CDE), the California Health and Human Services Agency (CalHHS), and the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) issued a joint letter encouraging Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) to promote BrightLife Kids and Soluna, two free, state-funded digital behavioral health platforms that support California’s children, youth, young adults, and families. The letter highlights the services these platforms provide, emphasizes their safety and oversight, and outlines how schools and districts can integrate these resources into existing mental health and wellness supports.

The platforms are part of the Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI), a multi-year more than $4 billion effort to reimagine behavioral health for California’s children and youth. They are available on iOS and Android devices and online at CalHOPE.org.
