Choose an approved app

DHCS reviews and approves apps for privacy, security, and functionality. Apps that are not approved cannot access your Medi-Cal health data.

Approved apps meet DHCS standards, but they are not HIPAA-covered entities. HIPAA applies to DHCS and your healthcare providers, not most consumer apps. Once your data leaves DHCS, HIPAA no longer protects it. Always read the app’s privacy policy before you share your data.

Third-party apps are currently under review by DHCS. This website will be updated when third-party apps are ready for member download and use.

Why use an approved app

  • Approved apps have gone through DHCS review for security and functionality.
  • Apps that are not approved cannot connect to your Medi-Cal data.
  • Approved apps provide clear information about their data practices.

Before you choose an app

Ask these questions:

  • What health data will this app collect? Will it collect non-health data like location?
  • How will this app use my data? Will it share or sell my data?
  • What security measures does this app use to protect my data?
  • How do I end access and request deletion of my data?
