California’s Section 1115(a) Medicaid Waiver, entitled Medi-Cal 2020, was approved by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) on December 30, 2015, and is set to expire on December 31, 2020. With the delay of CalAIM, DHCS submitted a 12-month extension request to CMS for the Medi-Cal 2020 waiver, to extend the effective date to December 31, 2021.

Stakeholder Engagement
Pursuant to Medicaid Section 1115 waiver public notice and transparency requirements, stakeholders had an opportunity to submit comments on the Medi-Cal 2020 12-month extension request. The deadline to submit written comments to 1115waiver@dhcs.ca.gov was August 21, 2020.
DHCS also hosted the following webinars to walk through the content of the 12-month extension request and included opportunity for public comment:
