​​​Self Determination Program 

The Self Determination Program (SDP) Waiver is administered by the Department of Developmental Services (DDS). Under oversight of the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) as the State Medicaid agency, DDS ensures that the SDP Waiver is implemented in accordance with Medicaid law and the State's approved Waiver application. SDP provides individuals and their families more freedom, increased flexibili​​ty in the person-centered planning process, and greater control of an individual budget, allowing them to direct and choose services and supports that best suit their needs. SDP supports individuals by helping them meet objectives in their Individual Program Plan (IPP) while maintaining their independence and promoting integration within the community.  For further information about this Waiver refer to 1915(c) Waivers page.

2021-2026 SDP Renewal 

On December 9, 2021, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) approved the renewal of the SDP Waiver. The Waiver has been approved for a five-year period with a retroactive start date of July 1, 2021.

Public Notice 

The Self-Determination 1915(c) Waiver Renewal Application (CA.1166.R02.00) proposes to renew the Self-Determination 1915(c) HCBS Waiver for a five-year period from July 2026 to June 2031. See the SDP Waiver draft renewal here for more specific details.
