Subacute Care Facilities
Adult Subacute Care
Subacute care providers are grouped into two statewide peer groups, one being hospital-based providers, and the other being freestanding nursing facility providers. These peer groups are further broken down into ventilator and non-ventilator-patient reimbursement categories.
Providers comprising both peer groups are reimbursed their projected costs up to the median, regardless of whether reimbursement is for ventilator or non-ventilator patients.
DP/SA reimbursement will shift from an August to July rate year basis to a calendar rate year basis, effective January 1, 2024, pending federal approval in State Plan Amendment 23-0032.
Distinct Part Adult Subacute Rates
The public health emergency for the COVID-19 outbreak expired on May 11, 2023. Thus, effective May 12, 2023, the COVID-19 increased reimbursement will cease, and reimbursement rates for Distinct Part Adult Subacute services will revert to the RY 2022-23 annual per diem rates.
Adult Freestanding Subacute Rates
Adult Freestanding Subacute Care rates are set by Freestanding Skilled Nursing Facilities and Subacute Units.
