Dual Eligible Special Needs Plan (D-SNP) Medicare Deeming

D-SNP Medicare Deeming Periods

In California, Medicare Advantage Dual Eligible Special Needs Plans (D-SNPs) are required to maintain D-SNP enrollment for members who have lost Medi-Cal eligibility for a minimum deeming period of three months. This policy ensures that members retain their D-SNP coverage during temporary lapses in Medi-Cal eligibility, allowing time to reestablish Medi-Cal eligibility without losing access to essential Medicare services. D-SNPs may provide a deeming period of three to six months.

Please refer to the January 2025 D-SNP Deeming Periods Factsheet for the specific deeming periods offered by D-SNPs in 2025.
