​Multipurpose Senior Services Program

There are currently 41 local agencies statewide under contract with the California Department of Aging, provide social and health care management for frail elderly clients who are certifiable for placement in a nursing facility but who wish to remain in the community. The goal of the MSSP is to arrange for and monitor the use of community services to prevent or delay premature institutional placement of these frail clients. Clients eligible for the program must be 65 years of age or older, live within an MSSP site service area, be able to be served within MSSP's cost limitations, be appropriate for care management services, be currently eligible for Medi-Cal, and be certified or certifiable for placement in a nursing facility.  Services provided by MSSP include: adult-day care / support center, housing assistance, chore and personal care assistance, protective supervision, care management, respite, transportation, meal services, social services, communication services.  

MSSP Waiver Approval Announcement​

The Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) and the California Department of Aging​ are pleased to announce the approval of the 1915(c) Multipurpose Senior Services Program, Home and Community-Based Services Waiver, Control Number 0141.05.00.  On Friday, December 19, 2014, DHCS received official notice from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services that the MSSP Waiver was approved for the period July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2019.  MSSP will continue to provide social and health care management services and purchased waiver services for frail older adults as a cost effective alternative to institutionalization. ​​
