Be Well Campus Groundbreaking: Reshaping Care in San Joaquin County
On September 10, DHCS joined San Joaquin County Behavioral Health Services for a groundbreaking event for the county's new Be Well Campus. This project was made possible by Behavioral Health Continuum Infrastructure Program (BHCIP) awards totaling more than $149 million through BHCIP Round 5: Crisis and Behavioral Health Continuum and Bond BHCIP Round 1: Launch Ready, which is a conditional award made possible by the Behavioral Health Infrastructure Bond Act, part of California's 2024 voter-approved reform to expand behavioral health care and housing throughout California.
Together, these investments will fund a 10-facility campus with 116 behavioral health treatment beds and outpatient slots, enabling care for more than 72,000 individuals annually. This project is part of California's broader Mental Health for All initiative and reflects the state's commitment to expanding access to behavioral health care through both immediate and long-term infrastructure investments. As a conditional award, the county must complete a funding agreement, confirm matching funds and property ownership, and meet all program requirements before receiving final approval. Learn more at the BHCIP website.
