Introduction to BCCTP

The BCCTP provides cancer treatment benefits to eligible low-income (up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level) California residents diagnosed with breast and/or cervical cancer and found to be in need of treatment. BCCTP applicants must apply for county Medi-Cal to be evaluated for all programs. Individuals with share of cost Medi-Cal may be eligible for BCCTP.

Referring an Applicant to BCCTP

Due to the nature of the program, and the urgency of providing access to care for a vulnerable population of individuals, there is a need to expedite the coordination of services between the BCCTP Eligibility Specialist (ES) and county eligibility worker (CEW). Individuals requesting a referral shall be immediately referred to BCCTP.

While a BCCTP applicant is waiting for the county to make a determination of Medi-Cal eligibility, they may be eligible for immediate Medi-Cal benefits to initiate treatment for their cancer.

Do not refer individuals directly to BCCTP to apply as this will only delay the process of them obtaining access to care timely. Please refer to the following All County Welfare Directors Letters (ACWDL) for guidance provided on how to send a referral to BCCTP when an individual states they have breast and/or cervical cancer.

The Medi-Cal Eligibility Division Information Letter (MEDIL) below provides the most current MC 373 version to use when sending referrals to BCCTP.

BCCTP aid codes are listed in the Q1, Q2, and Q3 screens in MEDS.
