Medi-Cal Enrollment and Renewal

Medi-Cal, California's Medicaid program, covers more than one-third of the state's population. The information accessible on this page represents the most recent data regarding Medi-Cal enrollment and renewals. Currently, about 88 percent of members have coverage provided by a Medi-Cal managed care plan, while 12 percent of members receive their care through the fee-for-service delivery system.

The files listed below describe the Medi-Cal population in various categories. Note that enrollment is determined retroactively, as it takes time for counties to determine eligibility, process enrollment, and report enrollment numbers to DHCS.

Procedural Disenrollment Survey

The individuals surveyed in the Procedural Disenrollment Survey does not include the individuals that were determined ineligible because they have requested discontinuance from Medi-Cal (Medi-Cal is no longer needed due to employer-sponsored insurance or other forms of health insurance) or were determined ineligible for Medi-Cal on other basis (i.e. over income, residency, death, etc.)
