California Strengthens Behavioral Health Infrastructure

Just two years after voters approved Proposition 1, California has surpassed statewide capacity goals. DHCS today awarded $1.18 billion in Bond Behavioral Health Continuum Infrastructure Program (BHCIP) Round 2 grants to expand treatment capacity in communities with the greatest unmet needs. Across Rounds 1 and 2, Bond BHCIP now supports 177 projects at 333 facilities, providing 6,919 beds and 27,561 treatment slots for mental health and substance use disorder services. Since 2021, BHCIP has awarded $5.8 billion to expand behavioral health infrastructure.
